Metal Tests

Our laboratory offers a wide range of tests of metallic materials that help verify their mechanical properties, quality and suitability for a specific use. Thanks to modern methods and a precise approach, we deliver reliable results for both industrial and research purposes. Below you’ll find an overview of the main types of tests we perform.

  • Training of your employeesto increase their expertise
  • Accredited laboratoriesfor external tests and calibrations

Metal hardness tests

We measure the hardness of metals using the Brinell (HBW), Vickers (HV), Knoop (HK) and Rockwell (HRC, HRB, etc.) methods. Each method is suited to a different type of material and hardness range. The results provide important information about the material's resistance to wear, deformation and other mechanical influences.

Strength and ductility tests

We perform tensile tests that determine the strength characteristics of a material – such as the yield strength, tensile strength and elongation. These values are key to assessing how a material behaves under load and its capacity for deformation before failure.

Sample preparation for structural evaluation

We provide expert preparation of samples for the subsequent evaluation of metal structure. A correctly prepared sample is the basis for a quality analysis – it reveals the internal arrangement of the material, transition zones or any defects.

Microscopic evaluation and layer-thickness measurement

Using light microscopy we carry out evaluation of metal structure and measurement of layer thickness, such as surface treatments, hardened layers or protective coatings. These analyses serve to verify the quality of technological processes and the service life of materials.

What We Test for You

Our laboratory offers comprehensive testing of metallic materials, covering the evaluation of mechanical properties, microstructure and the quality of surface layers. We carry out the tests to international standards, and the results serve for quality control, the development of new materials and the verification of technological processes. We focus both on basic characteristics and on specific applications, including measuring the hardness of welds, the hardness of hardened layers and hardness mapping.

Scope of tests

  • Base-material strength
  • Evaluation of weld strength and quality
  • Measurement of surface-hardened layer thickness
  • Hardness mapping across the material cross-section
  • Microscopic evaluation
  • Material hardness
  • Measurement of surface-treatment and coating thickness

What We Test for You

Weld hardness measurement

Weld hardness measurement

When measuring weld hardness by the Vickers method, three main areas are evaluated: the weld metal, i.e. the weld itself; the heat-affected zone, which was affected by the heat of welding; and the base material, which remained outside the reach of the heat. HERE.

Measuring case-hardening depth

Measuring case-hardening depth

The case-hardening depth is determined by measuring microhardness from the surface towards the core of the material. The case-hardening depth is taken as the distance from the surface to the point where the hardness drops below a defined limit, for example 550 HV.

Mapping hardness distribution across an area

Mapping hardness distribution across an area

Hardness mapping involves distributing measurement points across the surface of the material to visualise the hardness distribution. It is used to analyse changes in mechanical properties after heat or other treatment.

Which Standards We Test To

In our laboratory we test metallic materials to international standards, which include hardness measurement by the Brinell, Vickers, Rockwell and Knoop methods, tensile and bending tests to assess mechanical properties, microscopic evaluation of surface-layer thickness and determination of surface-hardened layer thickness. These standardised procedures let us evaluate the quality, durability and suitability of materials for technical and industrial use accurately and reliably.

Standards

  • ČSN EN ISO 6506 Brinell hardness test
  • ČSN EN ISO 6507 Vickers hardness test
  • ČSN EN ISO 6508 Rockwell hardness test
  • ČSN EN ISO 4545 Knoop hardness test
  • ČSN EN ISO 9015-1 Destructive tests on welds in metallic materials – Hardness testing
  • ČSN EN ISO 1463 Metallic and oxide coatings – Measurement of coating thickness – Microscopical method
  • ČSN EN ISO 6892 Metallic materials – Tensile testing
  • ČSN EN ISO 7438 Metallic materials – Bend test
  • ČSN EN ISO 18203 Steel – Determination of the thickness of surface-hardened layers
