Practical Workshop on Surface Layer Evaluation

Basic information about the seminar

We have prepared a full-day workshop on Surface Layer Evaluation for you, designed for all staff to acquire the fundamentals of this field.

The workshop includes a theoretical introduction covering the evaluation of layers after heat and thermo-chemical treatment. In the practical part we will then prepare material samples and evaluate, for example, the depth of the case-hardened layer both by means of a hardness profile and using microscopic methods; we will also show the options for hardness mapping. The evaluation is carried out in accordance with the ČSN EN ISO 18203 standard.

So that we can give every participant our full attention, and so that everyone can try the procedure, the seminar capacity is limited to 8 people. Earlier registrations take priority, so do not hesitate to register.

Practical Workshop on Surface Layer Evaluation

What topics to look forward to

Theory of layer evaluation

We will explain the significance of surface treatments and typical applications in industry.

Sample preparation

We will go through strategies for sectioning the sample, mounting, grinding, polishing and etching to highlight the microstructure.

Hardness profile

Measuring the depth of the carburised and nitrided layer and the depth of surface hardening according to the ČSN EN ISO 18203 standard.

Hardness maps

Hardness distribution — analysis of the changes in mechanical properties after heat treatment.
